Intego, the Macintosh security specialist, today announced that the company’s packaging materials will now be made from organically-grown, edible materials. Using rice- and soy-based packaging, and vegetable-based inks, all of Intego’s boxes will be derived from organic raw materials, and will be edible.

Intego’s boxes will come in two flavors: the company’s VirusBarrier X6 box will be baconflavored, and its Internet Security Barrier X6 box will be roast chicken-flavored. In addition, each box will include packets of low-fat, low-salt, naturally-flavored salad dressing: French dressing for VirusBarrier X6, and blue-cheese dressing for Internet Security Barrier X6. Standard license boxes, good for protecting up to two Macs, will contain two packets of salad dressing; family pack boxes, which protect up to five Macs, will contain five packets.

Happy April 1st!

Protecting the Mac World
Can you hear the warning drums? They’re getting louder. For years, Mac users smirked (yes, we did) at the nefarious insurgence of malware, spyware, Trojan horses
and viruses that have infested the Windows operating system. However, Apple computer and Ipod owners should start looking over their shoulders. Consider one of Murphy’s Computer Laws: “The subtlest bugs will cause the greatest damage and problems.”
With Ipod’s popularity and Apple’s new Intel-based system, Apple computers are receiving greater consumer recognition, which may equate to increased hacker recognition. Don’t despair Mac users. Intego has packaged six powerful protection software programs into the Internet Security Barrier X4 Platinum Edition. Intego’s slogan “We protect your world” accomplishes this, and more.
Since 1997, Intego has offered Mac native protection software for home users and seasoned administrators. Intego’s Security X4 Platinum Edition supports Mac OS 10.2.8 and later operating programs. It’s easy to download, and provides straight-forward directions in downloaded operating manuals that come in six different languages. The beauty of this entire system is its agility. Mac users can customize their system protection based on user age, business requirements or school usage. Intego’s software weaves a cohesive, tight sticky web allowing Mac users the maximum and most current Internet protection.
Firewalls come in different shapes and forms (i.e. Apple Airport router and OSX operating software), however one firewall layer doesn’t provide complete protection. NetBarrier X4 contains four tough levels of personal firewall protection. It filters incoming and exiting computer data either through the Internet or by a local network. NetBarrier can be customized for simple parental controls to sophisticated administrative network and business usage. Some of the intriguing protection barriers include Alerts, Ping Attacks sensitivity, Log profiles, AntiSpyware, Scan and Syn flooding protection, Cookie Manager and Trusted Group listings.
If only we could eradicate viruses like Virus Barrier X4, who would need flu shots? Non-intrusive VirusBarrier X4 quickly and efficiently snoops in the background inspecting incoming and outgoing files. “False alarms” don’t pop up, and it’s not necessary to deactivate VirusBarrier when installing new software. Any sensitive files can be placed in a secure zone and are automatically checked. If viruses are detected in the computer system, VirusBarrier sends an alert and efficiently incinerates the slimy devils.

Don’t let ContentBarrier’s cute teddy bear fool you. Company administrators and parents have a powerful weapon to control, monitor and alter Internet usage. Content Barrier X4 filters websites, chat lines, email, streaming media, peer-to-peer file sharing and newsgroup applications. Once the administrator has downloaded the system, individual user profiles can be adjusted from no restrictions to customized filtering.

One useful feature is ContentBarrier’s ability to define individual Internet time usage and to filter website access. Middle to high school students think it’s their inalienable right to sabotage parental restrictions. Safari’s parental controls can be circumvented by sneaking through Google Images. Sorry, kids. Content Barrier isn’t fooled! Just remember parents, to sign off on your account to enforce student usage on their managed (restricted) account.
The Platinum edition also incorporates ChatBarrier X4, Net Update X4, Personal Antispam X4, and Personal Backup X4. Subtle and efficient, ChatBarrier encrypts and decrypts Apple iChat messages, but doesn’t interfere with other chat users that don’t incorporate this program. Personal Antispam X4 obliterates spam messages and actually learns from individual email to outguess spammers. Personal Backup X4 and Net Update X4 simplify updating materials. And check out the convenient Dashboard widget!
Mac users can purchase and download the full Platinum protection package for $149.95 – a big savings that incorporates ChatBarrier X4, ContentBarrier X4, NetBarrier X4, NetUpdate X4, Personal Antispam X4, Personal Backup X4 and VirusBarrier X4. Intego also provides a 30-day download trial period for individual and packaged editions.
Hate to say it, Mac users, but wake up. Apple computers need software protection, and Intego offers a solid product for a great price.
